This practice helps us hear the voice of God through Scripture. We do not come to the text to analyze it but to hear the voice of the living God who inspired it and is present with us.

Quiet your mind from external and internal distractions. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead your time and help you discern His voice.

1. Reading (Lectio)
a. Select a passage (some suggestions below)
b. Read through the entire passage taking it in as a whole. Wait.
c. Read through the entire passage again and note words, emotions, or images that arise.
d. Read through the entire passage again and note words, emotions, or images that arise.

2. Meditation (Meditatio)
Think about the words, emotions, or images that arose. What do they remind you of in your life? What do they make you hope for? What is God saying to you through them?

3. Prayer (Oratio)
Talk to God about the meditation and ask Him to speak to you and give you more clarity.

4. Contemplation (Contemplatio)
Rest in God’s presence with an ear open to Him. Journal what He is saying to you and consider how it applies to your life here and now. Go where He leads you.
